I loathe The Kooks with a burning passion in my soul. Unoriginal, inauthentic, brazenly stealing ideas from better bands without credit, they are everything that I despise about indie music. Right down to the straw trilbys and fake Northern accent.
I’ll let my friend Simon Amstell summarise in the first 30 seconds of this clip, with sarcasm aplenty:
Naive is a cookie-cutter indie love song; cutesy guitar, overtly romanticised lyricism, genuinely annoying lead singer with idiosyncratic vocals that steal from every discernable accent, except showcasing his own. This is the absolute bottom rung of British indie.
